During public comment, several residents asked whether existing access from Sarah's Way to Route 111 (Mass Ave) is approved for a fire station driveway. John Marco asked whether MassDOT had approved access; the project team said they have not yet engaged MassDOT and that such coordination typically occurs once the design includes engineering drawings.
A town staff member said, "The MassDOT won't respond to that. They wanna actually have a formal proposal to respond to," explaining MassDOT's process for technical review. The design team recommended that civil engineers prepare the necessary documentation and noted that committee members could also seek assistance through their state senator to facilitate early conversations. The team added that the current concept shows access via Sarah's Way rather than direct egress to Mass Ave to avoid significant grading and tree removal.
