Holtec sees initial SMR deployments in Utah region by 2034–35 and manufacturing potential

Holtec predicted a first wave of SMR-300 units by 2034–35 and said Utah could host manufacturing and workforce development to support larger build-outs in later years.
Rick Springman of Holtec told the panel that, while large infrastructure projects take time, a realistic path exists to have initial SMR units operating in the next decade.
"I think realistically, we could have 4 of our SMR 3 hundreds up and running or very close to in the next 10 years in, you know, 2034, 2035," Springman said, adding that bringing four SMRs online would equate to roughly 1,200 megawatts. He said Holtec expects to pair site restarts and reference projects with supply-chain and manufacturing investments and that Utah’s policy steps (permitting, incentives) make the state a candidate for early projects.
Springman and other panelists said manufacturing could follow initial deployment and recommended focusing on site identification, state permitting coordination and training a workforce in high-precision manufacturing and nuclear project delivery.
