Members of the Clayton County Board of Education addressed students, staff and families with short welcoming remarks to open the 2026–27 school year. Board Chair Ben Straker, who represents District 9, opened the session and congratulated the class of 2027, telling scholars, “This is your year.”
Several board members echoed Straker’s message while acknowledging the role of staff and families in student success. Jasmine Bowles, District 1, singled out transportation workers as "the first smile of our scholars day," and Jessie Goree, District 3, noted the first day of school is 08/03/2026 and encouraged a supportive year for learners from pre-K through high school.
