The Percival Town Council voted Feb. 13 to approve the Planning Commission's zoning ordinance draft for public distribution and scheduled a public hearing for March 11.
Council debate focused on whether both the Planning Commission's and staff's versions should be presented to the public before a hearing. Council Member Rayner and others said the public had not been shown staff's comparative analysis and urged "both versions" be available; supporters of the motion said the Planning Commission had followed state code and the draft had been legally reviewed. The motion carried on a roll-call vote with four yes and three no votes.
The council's action directs staff to publicly distribute the draft prepared by the Planning Commission (dated 07/31/2024) and advertise the March 11 hearing. Officials emphasized that the legal review found only "minor clarifications to ensure consistent wording" since January, and the hearing is intended to collect public feedback before any final action.
