Several residents and homeowners told the Goose Creek Board of Zoning Appeals that the proposed 75-unit townhome development would make already-congested nearby streets worse and create safety risks for park users and children.
Jay Roger told the board, "The traffic on St. James right now is 47,000 cars daily," and said the development would add more cars funneling through neighborhood cut-throughs. Other commenters — including Andy Jeffrey, Larry Hutchison and Ben Hyatt — described daily backups, difficulty making left turns and parents’ concerns about children crossing busy roads to reach the park. The board heard repeated testimony about long wait times at the nearby signal and several speakers urged denial on safety grounds.
Board members echoed those concerns during discussion: members specifically referenced the intersection near Foxborough Road and asked whether a third-party traffic impact analysis would be available for review if the proposal proceeded. Planning staff confirmed such a TIA is required and will be reviewed by city and DOT engineers.
