County Attorney John Dorris described requests to give local government a pre-event legal remedy for properties that advertise and sell tickets for large, recurring parties that disrupt residential neighborhoods. "We're asking for your support in finding some legislation that would allow the county to seek an injunction before the court so that the parties have the opportunity to argue that it's not going to be an inconvenience for the neighborhood," Dorris said.
Dorris and commissioners emphasized the intent is not to prevent private celebrations such as weddings or graduations but to target commercialized, recurring events where tickets are sold and buses bring crowds. Commissioners described those events as highly organized nuisances that bring commuter buses and nighttime disturbances; they asked for state assistance to craft an enforceable remedy. The delegation accepted the request for further consideration.
