County seeks authority for 20-year asset-management contracts for water towers and meter systems

The county asked legislators to allow more-flexible contract terms for long-term asset management of water infrastructure, including water towers and hydro-pneumatic tanks. Jared Cosgrove, director of public works, said the request would permit initial contract terms of not less than 20 years so operators can ensure compatible materials and stable maintenance: "So there's there's I guess you say there's 2 private water systems that have tanks slash towers."
Cosgrove explained the change would also cover ground-level hydro-pneumatic tanks and meter systems and could support remote monitoring to reduce meter-reading travel. Commissioners asked for clarification about ownership and coverage; staff said the request is directed at long-lived infrastructure where material compatibility and scheduled maintenance justify longer contract terms. The delegation took the request under advisement for possible enabling language.
