The South Salt Lake City Council adopted a comprehensive Parks Plan on March 25, 2026, setting a citywide blueprint for parks, trails and open-space investments over the next decade. The plan, which the draft document summarizes as "Draft Released February 2026 / Adopted March 2026," proposes new parks, plazas and trail connections aimed at improving access in underserved areas.
The plan documents the current system as roughly 25 acres of city-managed parkland (21.36 acres at city parks and 3.6 acres at community centers) and reports that 79% of residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park. It directs staff to update the Impact Fee Analysis and incorporate the plan’s prioritized projects into the Capital Improvement Plan to pursue grants, RDA and other funding sources. Mayor Cherie Wood is quoted in the plan materials: "What I want for myself and my family, I want for every person in our community."
