Council adopts new Flexible Review zoning district and creates accommodations tax advisory committee

The Goose Creek City Council on Oct. 8 voted to amend the city zoning code to create a new Flexible Review District (FRD) and to establish an accommodations tax advisory committee. Council considered both items as second and final readings and approved them by voice vote.
Councilwoman McSwain moved to adopt the FRD zoning amendment and Councilwoman Cox seconded; the motion passed and the transcript records a 5–2 count in favor. The accommodations-tax committee ordinance was moved by Councilman Harmon and seconded; staff explained the committee is required by state law once accommodations-tax revenue reaches a certain level. Council approved both ordinances with no additional conditions recorded on the transcript.
The FRD will add a discretionary zoning pathway the city can use in reviewing certain development proposals; the accommodations-tax committee establishes the required local advisory body to review and recommend spending of lodging-related tax revenues.
