Advisory board backs proposed FY26–27 fees: senior membership, rentals and nonresident surcharges

"So what we're proposing, we're proposing to do a $20 a year fee for our residents and an $80 fee for our nonresidents," Recreation Director Albert Montero said as he explained the proposal and the department's benchmarking against neighboring cities. He said the department sold 533 senior fitness passes last year and that the proposed fee mirrors the current senior fitness pass structure.
Montero also proposed a $5 increase to rental fees and a new nonresident rental rate (for example, increasing a classroom rental from $65 to $85 for nonresidents) while preserving a monthly, business‑hour nonprofit meeting accommodation. He said the department will not charge participants who receive free meals through a Dallas County grant and that a scholarship program would cover 60% of the fee for qualifying seniors.
After discussion and questions about accessibility, program fee structure and how nonresident fees would be implemented, a board member moved to accept the fee package and a second was given. The chair called the vote and announced "the ayes have it."
The fee package will be sent to city council for consideration; staff said council will review the measures in July with an anticipated implementation date of Oct. 1 if approved.
