A Garland resident raised a complaint to the All Abilities Committee that a Planning Commission agenda listed auxiliary aids but also stated in capital letters that “Braille is not available.” The resident asked whether Braille is never provided or had been omitted for that meeting; staff said the omission was tied to cost and turnaround constraints.
"But it says in capital letters, Braille is not available," the resident said during public comment. Assistant City Manager Matt Watts responded, "I think it was just cost prohibited," and said staff would research the issue and report back. Watts later noted the city posts agendas up to the state deadline and some services "could not turn it around in that fast a time," indicating a scheduling constraint that contributed to the omission.
Committee members and staff agreed to add research on Braille availability to a future agenda. Staff also suggested the committee could recommend low-cost accessibility changes to the City Council if the research shows feasible options.
