The Board of County Commissioners on Nov. 19 approved amendments to the county's Veterans Affairs Commission ordinance to add military families and expand membership.
Staff (speaker 22) summarized recommended changes to Resolution 13-21, which include renaming the commission "Calvert County Commission for Veterans and Military Families," expanding voting membership from nine to eleven by adding an at-large member and a military spouse/caregiver representative, broadening membership criteria to include active duty, National Guard, reserve and separated/retired service members or spouses, and adding language in section 8(h) to enable virtual participation using available technology.
Brandon Temple, chair of the Veterans Affairs Commission (speaker 34), said the changes codify work the commission has already been doing, citing collaboration with Purple Star School initiatives and outreach to military-connected families. A commissioner moved to repeal and reenact Resolution 13-21 with the recommended amendments; the motion carried by voice vote.
