Marshall County Conservation Board approves wildlife grant, discusses windmill setbacks

The Marshall County Conservation Board met April 13, 2026, at the GrimesFarm and Conservation Center and approved a Wildlife Diversity Grant and a related equipment purchase while discussing potential windmill setback recommendations.
Vice President Tom Deimerly called the meeting to order at 5:10 p.m. Board members Tina Nelson and Deimerly were present in person; Rich Naughton participated by phone and Pam Paone joined by phone at 5:10 p.m. Staff in attendance included Tami Krough, Jeremiah Manken and Emily Herring. The minutes of March 9, 2026 were approved as presented and there were no public comments.
Staff member Emily Herring requested approval of a Wildlife Diversity Grant agreement for $4,903.99 to purchase bat monitoring equipment; the board approved the grant and then authorized the purchase of equipment for $4,519.90. Votes on those motions were recorded as unanimous among members present: Nelson, Deimerly, Paone and Naughton on the grant and equipment purchases.
The board also discussed possible recommendations for windmill setbacks and reviewed concrete work planned for the Nature Playscape. Those items were discussed but no formal motions or votes on setbacks or the playscape concrete were recorded in the transcript. The meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
