Public commenters press zoning change request; commissioners recap local events and adjourn to closed session

During the public-comment period Gary Pape, a long-time resident in the Chesapeake Beach area, asked the board to change his neighborhood's zoning to address what he described as a neighbor storing a refrigerated trailer and multiple junk vehicles that he said depress nearby property values. "I'm asking for that zoning change," Pape said, describing long-term concerns about erosion mitigation and neighborhood conditions.
Another resident, Joe Cormier, praised the Think Big Networks presentation and urged the county to harness broadband improvements for workforce development and schools. Cormier also clarified earlier remarks about budget concerns and noted a recent $280,000 expenditure that he said warrants scrutiny.
Commissioners delivered routine reports, noting attendance at the soil conservation dinner, outreach on opioid-crisis documentary screenings, traffic-safety meetings, senior driver programs and upcoming visits from state cabinet members. The board concluded the public portion of its Oct. 29 meeting by voting to adjourn into a closed session under the cited personnel exception; the motion carried by voice vote.
