The Oct. 29 meeting featured multiple proclamations and community recognitions. Grace Palissell of Economic Development introduced the proclamation for National Veterans Small Business Week (Nov. 11–15) and invited veteran-owned businesses to be recognized as part of the county's salute to business campaign.
The board also adopted a proclamation supporting NACO's Operation Greenlight initiative to illuminate buildings in green during November in honor of veterans and read a proclamation recognizing the World Day of Remembrance for road-traffic victims. Representatives from the Veterans Affairs Commission and the Office on Aging accepted remarks.
On a lighter note, the county's animal-shelter supervisor brought a kitten named Pookie to the dais and encouraged adoptions; staff said the kitten was spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. The board also presented the September employee-of-the-month award to Alona Jones, building supervisor for Parks & Recreation, and colleagues praised her long service and steady contributions.
