County adopts World Day of Remembrance proclamation and highlights traffic-safety council work

Jessica Catano, planner with the Department of Planning and Zoning, described the work of the county's Traffic Safety Council and urged continued interagency coordination to reduce roadway fatalities. She said the council brings together subject-matter experts from the sheriff's office, Maryland State Police, Department of Public Works, Community Resources, Department of Transportation, Office on Aging, Calvert County Public Schools, the state's attorney's office and other partners.
The board read and adopted a proclamation recognizing the World Day of Remembrance for road-traffic victims (observed the third Sunday in November) and noted the county's strategic roadway safety plan adopted in 2023. State's Attorney Bob Harvey and law-enforcement representatives stressed public education and stepped-up enforcement during seasonal periods and encouraged residents to slow down and wear seat belts.
Commissioners voiced support for ongoing traffic-safety education, senior-driver programs and driver-fit initiatives and thanked volunteers and partner agencies for their contributions to the council's efforts.
