Council reports: Sister city 'peace pole' plan and veterans memorial dedication set

During council reports at the Oct. 7 workshop, Councilman Edge said the Bryan/College Station Sister Cities group is pursuing a 'peace pole' marker to display partner cities and directions, with a likely location near the South College city limit or in Downtown Bryan. Edge said the two cities may install a shared pole or each install a pole locally before a joint installation is feasible.
Edge also summarized MPO activity: he said the program amended the transportation improvement program to increase funding for the Texas Avenue project from $15 million to $22 million and moved a phase from FY27 to FY28; Edge noted the MPO added a funded shared‑use path along 29th Street. He announced that the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial Kosovo statue dedication will be Monday, Oct. 13 at 9 a.m., with remarks by retired U.S. Air Force officer Wendy Woodard and a keynote by John B. Sherman; the event is free and open to the public. He added that the annual Veterans Day ceremony will be Nov. 11 at Veterans Park.
