The South Weber City Council approved a $112,007.12 change order for a propane generator at the city's new public-works facility to provide backup power for office systems and emergency operations-center capabilities.
Council members asked staff about the generator's expected runtime and scope of backed-up systems. Staff said the design includes a 1,000-gallon propane tank expected to supply roughly 30 days of operation for critical outlets, limited exterior lighting and designated office areas that will support emergency operations. City staff and engineering review determined that the selected generator and installation by Valley Design would meet required emergency-operation-center specifications for certain rooms and connectivity.
A motion to approve the change order for Valley Design in the amount of $112,007.12 was made and seconded; the council voted and the presiding officer announced the motion carried with a 4-1 tally.
Staff will continue coordination with engineers and the fire chief on the specific equipment and media hookups necessary to meet state emergency operations requirements and ensure the facility functions as an operational emergency hub when needed.
