Local author collection to debut in April 2026; submissions open under new policy

Liz Kwan, the new adult selector for the Garland Public Library, told the board the local author collection—born from last year’s Curiosity Fest—will debut in April 2026 and provide a dedicated shelf and online searchability for works by Garland and Dallas County authors or those with strong local ties. "My name is Liz Kwan. I'm the new adult selector for the Garland Public Library, and I'll be talking about our new collection, the local author collection that's debuting this spring, April 2026," she said.
The policy defines a local author as someone who resides in Garland or Dallas County, has significant ties to the area (for example, the book's primary setting), or grew up in Garland. Donated titles must be professionally bound, published within the last three years, and limited to three titles per author per calendar year. Titles will be evaluated by the collection development team and kept in the local section for a minimum of six months before potential integration into the general collection or withdrawal based on circulation and condition.
