Board asks if contractor certification or contract language can limit spread of invasives

Board members raised concerns about how equipment and soil movement spread invasive plants and whether small contractors would comply with clean-equipment policies. CRISP said large contracting entities (for example, DEP or NYSDOT contracts) already include broom-cleaning clauses and that contract specifications could require controls, notification and permitting for herbicide application.
A member asked about certification: "Is there any, plan at some point down the road before some form of certification so that when you're hiring, like, ground crews or you're hiring, landscape or taping crews that they will be certified," the resident asked. CRISP staff said NAISMA offers weed-free product programs and that a weed-free gravel program is under early discussion in New York but not yet established; some listed species present local implementation challenges.
