The Calvert County Student Safety and Well‑Being Advisory Committee held its first meeting, where Chair Dana Jones introduced himself and the group’s advisory charge to the Board of County Commissioners. "I am Dana Jones," he said, adding that he serves as pastor of Mount Olive United Methodist Church and has served on the school board. The resolution creating the committee and the code of conduct were distributed to members.
Deputy County Administrator Linda Turner reviewed the committee’s remit and procedures, including compliance with the Maryland Open Meetings Act and one vote per member. Staff liaison Emily Shreeves confirmed 11 voting members were present, which the chair said constituted a quorum. Dr. Brandon Temple moved to approve the agenda; Leslie Irvin seconded and the motion passed by voice vote.
The committee agreed to a recurring schedule, voting to meet monthly on the third Wednesday at 2 p.m. Members asked staff to circulate meeting agendas and to document ideas and meeting minutes for follow‑up. Turner and Emily Shreeves said staff will compile themes and categorize suggestions for future meetings.
