Nominee Tracy Hamilton proposes ethics hotline for social workers

Tracy Hamilton, nominated in PR 26-389 to serve as a licensed independent clinical social worker member of the Board of Social Work, told the Committee on Health she would prioritize creating an ethics hotline to provide immediate guidance to social-work providers across the District. "I would like to see a ethics hotline that is open to our providers throughout the city when they have ethical concerns that they can get guidance right then and there," Hamilton said during her testimony.
Hamilton described using regulations to reconcile clinical practice and institutional policy in her current role and said delays in getting ethics guidance can leave clinicians "stuck in a limbo" and unable to act. She described clinical and supervisory roles at Sibley Memorial Hospital, Collaborative Solutions for Communities and other organizations and said her combined clinical and macro-level experience positions her to balance service delivery with regulatory oversight. The committee did not vote on her nomination during the roundtable.
