Commissioners approve $280,000 budget transfer to replace county hardware

The Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution BA-2025-000155 to transfer $280,000 from the Technology Services contracted-services account into the hardware line (items under $10,000) to maintain the county's five-year computer replacement schedule.
Stephen/Steven Pereira, Director of Technology Services, told the board the replacement schedule had been removed from the FY25 budget but that equipment lifecycle compliance requires maintaining replacements. Pereira said TS identified contract savings of about $280,000 that could be shifted to address the shortfall. One virtual speaker, Joe Cormier, questioned why those savings were not discovered during the contentious July budget process and asked whether the department had coordinated buying with the school system. Pereira and commissioners replied that departmental timing and procurement cycles differ and that the department would share additional details as requested.
A motion to adopt the resolution was moved, seconded, and carried; the minutes record a voice vote in favor. The transfer will allow procurement of computers and peripherals to support county operations and compliance with software specifications.
