James Island committee presses SCDOT over Folly Road medians, seeks Santee stoplight

The Rethink Folly Road steering committee reiterated local opposition to proposed medians in the SCDOT safety audit and asked elected officials to push for changes. Chair (speaker 1) said the town council and business groups were “really upset” and announced a town council resolution on the issue will be on tomorrow’s agenda.
The chair said the committee is also seeking a stoplight at Santee and discussed next steps for neighborhood outreach. “We are also asking for that stoplight at Santee that we all have or many of us have discussed wanting,” the chair said. Members noted potential effects on businesses in Bayfront and Centerville and discussed petitions and a Centerville resident’s involvement to help organize community responses.
Committee members asked whether the final SCDOT report had been released; staff said a revised report is expected but the final version had not been posted. Staff agreed to circulate the report link after the meeting. The committee decided to take the issue to the town council and to continue coordinating with neighborhood groups and the county to seek modifications before SCDOT finalizes construction.
