Representatives of the Friends of Highland Village Parks Foundation presented recent accomplishments and plans to the council, describing volunteer tree plantings and donations that supported park projects.
Phil Lozano (parks staff) introduced foundation representatives; Sean Lynch, identified as the foundation's president, described three planting events in 2022 and 2023 and a recent project that placed 20 saplings along a roadway near Briar Hill Middle School. Lynch cited donations and volunteer counts: earlier donations reported as $1,600.20 and $2,376 in prior events, and an additional $7,000 raised for a later project. "20 trees is a lot harder than you think," Lynch said, describing the volunteers' work and the foundation's aims to focus on native trees, reforestation, and Tree City USA engagement.
Council thanked the foundation and asked staff to continue the partnership. The foundation noted its goal to support capital improvements, legacy programs and education in support of city reforestation efforts.
Next steps: the foundation will continue volunteer plantings and coordinate signage and placement with parks staff.
