Nate Mundy, external communications manager for the Montgomery County Recorder's Office, addressed the council about three county programs the office promotes: a fraud alert notification (FAN) system that notifies property owners when documents are recorded against their property, a transfer‑on‑death (TOD) recording to simplify property transfer, and a free veteran ID program tied to recorded DD‑214 forms.
Mundy described the fraud alert tool as a free service and explained new text notifications. "If fraud's happening with your house. You get a text like that," he said, describing the faster notification option compared with mail. He urged residents to sign up using a QR code or paper form distributed in the meeting packet.
He also explained TOD recordings that allow naming a beneficiary to avoid probate and the Recorder's complimentary veteran ID for those who record a DD‑214. Mundy said the office will continue community outreach, including a veteran ID event in Huber Heights and distribution of the recorder's updated brochure.
