Fire Chief Doug Acred told the board the department's ladder truck has chronic hydraulic problems, that parts for the model are nearly obsolete, and that a repair estimate of $27,295 was not guaranteed to restore the ladder to its full 100-foot reach. After discussion Alderman Mark A. Barber said the city may be better off selling the troubled unit rather than sinking funds into uncertain repairs. The board decided not to authorize repairs at this time and to address replacement options during upcoming budget meetings.
