Police Captain Ron Stewart congratulated Mayor King "on his retirement" and thanked him "for all he had done for them." Building Official Brent Beshires called him "one of the best mayor’s he had worked under," and Assistant Utility Director David Russell and Fire Chief Doug Acred each offered well-wishes. Recorder Garland reminded attendees of the mayor's retirement reception scheduled for the next day from 2-4 p.m., and that the swearing-in of aldermen and the new mayor will take place Aug. 30 at 10:00 a.m.
