Henderson adopts 21‑day notice rule for zoning text and classification changes

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted unanimously Oct. 10 to require 21 days' public‑hearing notice for amendments to both the Municipal and Regional Zoning Texts. Mayor Terry F. Bell declared Ordinance #572 approved on the final reading after a roll-call vote that recorded six ayes and no noes.
Recorder Jim E. Garland told the board that nothing in the proposed ordinances had changed since the first reading and that the Planning Commission had already approved the amendments. Alderman Mark A. Barber moved to adopt Ordinance #572 (municipal text) and Alderman Donna R. Butler moved the companion Regional Zoning Text ordinance; both final readings were approved without opposition.
The change is intended to conform Henderson's local notice practices with a recent change in State law and formalizes the city’s existing practice tied to local newspaper publication schedules. The board did not alter the substance of the draft ordinances on final reading.
