Kalkaska County commissioners continued a community forum for the county strategic plan at a special meeting on April 21, 2025. Chair Kohn Fisher called the meeting to order at 4:45 PM at the Commission on Aging; County Administrator David Schaeffer and consultant Todd Dickerson of WestErie presented the 'Kalkaska Strategic Planning Intake and Strategic Goals' documents.
Dickerson flagged housing, revenue and grant funding as recurring needs and asked the audience to prioritize issues for the plan. Audience members raised questions about where revenue to implement the plan would come from and who would be responsible for carrying out recommended actions. The board agreed to further outreach: Dickerson said "a survey will go out to the community to gather more data; pending open houses for more information." The meeting adjourned at 6:01 PM after a motion by Commissioner Jeff Sieting, seconded by Commissioner David Persons; the vote carried 4 yeas, 0 nays, 3 absent.
