Mountrail County Commissioners approve personnel changes, road contract amendments and parcel adjustments

The Mountrail County Commissioners met June 2, 2026 in the Emergency/Community Room at the Mountrail County Courthouse in Stanley. Chairman Trudy Ruland presided; Commissioners Wayne Olson, John DeGroot, Joan Hollekim and Jason Rice attended and approved the meeting agenda and prior minutes by roll call.
During morning business the board approved numerous personnel actions including deputy and roadworker hires and promotion banding for sheriff dispatch positions (example: several dispatchers moved to Dispatcher II at $34.61 per hour). The board also authorized a letter regarding oil‑industry flaring during dry and windy conditions to be sent to the Attorney General, the North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner, the Governor and the North Dakota Industrial Commission. Later in the day the commissioners reconvened for a County Equalization session where Tax Director Kim Savage presented recommended adjustments; motions passed to reduce and remove assessed values on several parcels, notably lowering parcel #58-0042300 in Parshall from $2,572,300 to $1,282,800 because condo units had been double-assessed.
The meeting included approvals of contract amendments with HDR Engineering for County Route 14 (an estimated $65,469.40 amendment raising the not-to-exceed to $855,807.40) and for County Route 4 realignment (an estimated $347,580 amendment increasing the agreement to $1,384,358.29 subject to a cost-share agreement with MWEC). The board approved leasing the New Town Shop property from Knife River Corporation and certified bills totaling $490,679.89. The County Board recessed the Equalization meeting to June 18, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. The meeting adjourned at 12:39 P.M.
