County awards $739,486 chip-seal contract, approves CR2 construction and Sauber engineering agreement

Road & Bridge Engineer Jana Hennessy briefed the commissioners on multiple transportation contracts and grant awards at the April 7 meeting.
The board approved the Notice of Award to Morris Sealcoat & Trucking for Chip Seal/PM2026 totaling $739,486.27 covering 13.68 miles of county pavement. Separately, commissioners approved a Construction Agreement and Notice to Proceed with Central Specialties Inc. for CR2 (Old Highway 2) Palermo to Blaisdell (Project No. 02(64)25) and authorized a Construction Engineering Agreement with Sauber Engineering not to exceed $650,000.
The board also accepted a Special Road Fund grant for 40th St NW with a maximum county match of $500,000, approved a Sourcewell bid for a 2026 HX520 SFA semi at $151,367 with trade in, and voted to deny a BNSF cost-share request on crossing replacements. The minutes show discussion of crossing permits with R&T Water and a separate request for ‘No Engine Brake’ signage on CR 7; State’s Attorney Wade Enget noted enforcement and zone-creation concerns for any ordinance.
