Henderson board advances municipal and regional zoning-text notice amendments to second reading

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Sept. 12 held a public hearing — with no public comment — and adopted first readings of two ordinances to amend the Municipal Zoning Text and the Regional Zoning Text to require 21 days' public notice for hearings on zoning-text or zoning-classification changes.
Recorder Jim E. Garland told the board the Planning Commission previously approved the change and noted the 21-day notice accommodates the city’s local newspaper publication schedule. Alderman Mark A. Barber moved to adopt the Municipal Zoning Text amendment on first reading; the roll-call vote recorded ayes from Barber, Butler, Maness, Rhodes, and Smith; Michael Phelps was absent. Alderman Keith Smith moved to adopt the Regional Zoning Text amendment on first reading with the same roll-call outcome. Both ordinances will be given final readings at the next regular meeting.
