Council delays decision on downtown right-of-way abandonment to December

The council on Nov. 11 postponed consideration of an abandonment of an unimproved public right-of-way near Midtown until the December meeting to allow staff to provide options and valuation.
Martin Zimmerman told the council the parcel is about "6,900 square feet" and currently serves as access to adjacent apartments. Joe Schultz, representing the applicant, said consolidating the parcel with adjacent holdings could enable a 3-story multifamily redevelopment but acknowledged parking would limit building height. Council members asked whether the city should convey the parcel, sell it, or seek to capture greater value given nearby high valuations; after discussion a motion was made to postpone the item to the December meeting so staff can prepare options and data for council consideration.
The applicant asked for clarity so he could explain the decision to his client; the council agreed to return the item with additional information and possible options for sale or conveyance.
