Auburn cites intern presentations and hires as evidence of program success

City leaders described final presentation day as the program's capstone and a chance for interns to demonstrate substantive, department-specific work. Melissa Medich said managers value the mentorship role and the opportunity to expose interns to real projects; "I love the intern final presentation day is seeing them all in one place together," she said.
Mayor Nancy Backus and HR staff said the program has produced hires: "We have hired some of those interns full time," the mayor noted. Medich said the city hopes to expand tracks and deepen pathways into municipal careers, including piloting high-school placements in horticulture under a First Step Auburn initiative.
