Traill County to sign bridge contracts after low bids; awards contingent on right‑of‑way signatures

KLJ Engineer Matt Lange told the Traill County Commission on April 7 that bids for Bridge 361 and Bridge 374 came in well below original estimates. The low bid for the two‑bridge work totaled $2,351,235, compared with an original combined estimate just under $3,000,000.
Lange said the North Dakota Department of Transportation indicated it would concur if the county awarded the contract. The Commission approved, by motion of Commissioner Amb and seconded by Commissioner Eblen, signing the agreement contingent on obtaining the necessary right‑of‑way signatures. Lange also requested the county sign a contract for Highway 21; County Road 10 and Bridge 173 were identified as secondary options dependent on available funding, and the Commission approved signing that agreement by motion of Commissioner Nesvig, seconded by Commissioner Amb.
Road Superintendent Corwyn Martin told commissioners the Highway Department will move to 10‑hour workdays beginning April 13, 2026, and that interviews for an open road position are scheduled for April 10. Matt Lange additionally reported that Bridge 114A will be closed for an extended period in connection with work on Highway 16 and the Climax Bridge.
