Applicant withdraws chicken-keeping permit as new bylaw, licensing loom

The clerk read the application seeking a special permit under the town’s use regulations for keeping chickens at 12 Kenny Lane. The applicant described plans to keep about eight birds in a coop and run already installed on the property: "my plan is just to get, about 8 chickens in my backyard." A neighbor described prior drainage and an 18-inch pipe running through nearby lots and urged the board to follow the law.
Board members explained that the new bylaw creates a licensing process administered by Building, Board of Health and Animal Control and noted that with only three members present the applicant would effectively need unanimous approval to proceed. After that exchange the applicant chose to withdraw the application and the board voted to accept the withdrawal.
