Commission forwards draft invasive-species ordinance to Park and Open Space Board and EAC; education event set for June 2

Commissioner Allison Pearce reported that she and Edgar David provided a draft invasive-species ordinance to the Shade Tree Commission and led commissioners through questions and concerns. "This is not to have as an 'invasive species police' but to have an ordinance to back up," Pearce said, stressing the draft is intended to provide enforcement authority and an education framework rather than to criminalize residents.
Pearce moved that the commission share the draft with the Park and Open Space Board and the Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) for input; the motion passed unanimously with all members voting "Aye." The commission requested feedback within 30 days. Pearce also promoted an Invasive Species Educational Event on Tuesday, June 2 at 6:00 PM at the Blue Bell Library; the event will feature Ms. Kehres from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry and will include discussion of the ordinance and a proposed "Free a Tree" volunteer idea.
Note on attendance: the meeting roll lists Edgar David among members absent but the transcript records him as a co-author of the ordinance draft; the commission minutes do not resolve this attendance discrepancy.
