Cass County awards striping and gravel contracts for 2026 season; bids well under engineers’ estimates

County Engineer Darrick Anderson presented bids and recommended awards for two roadwork contracts at the April 7 meeting. For the 2026 Maintenance Striping project (C.M. 2026‑02) covering roughly 387.5 miles of paved roadway (12.4 miles epoxy, 375.1 miles latex), Sir Lines‑A‑Lot submitted the low bid at $339,647.64 against an engineer’s estimate of $424,507.07. Anderson said the county will use higher‑durability epoxy on routes with more than 1,000 vehicles per day and latex elsewhere; funding comes from maintenance levy funds.
For the 2026 Gravel Surfacing contract (C.M. 2026‑01) involving hauling gravel to about 36 miles of road, DLL Excavating’s low bid was $238,771.80 — roughly 32% under the engineer’s estimate. Anderson noted material costs approx. $11.18/ton using crushed material from 2025 pits and that an intern will be stationed at the pit to monitor loader tickets. The board unanimously awarded both contracts.
