Manistee County Land Bank asks Village of Bear Lake to reimburse $19,000 for planning study

The Manistee County Land Bank Authority voted to request reimbursement of $19,000 from the Village of Bear Lake for Phase 1 planning and engineering work on the 7780 Lake Street project. The motion, made by Mitch Deisch and supported by Gary Buren, passed unanimously with one member absent.
Board members reviewed costs already incurred, including administrative and engineering expenses for the project. The Authority noted that Fleis & Vandenbrink's Phase 1 planning and engineering study will remain useful to the Village for future planning even though the Land Bank is withdrawing from the grant. "We request the Village of Bear Lake reimburse the Manistee County Land Bank for the costs associated with the Phase 1 planning and engineering ($19,000.00)," the motion stated in the minutes.
Village President Shelly Lynnes said she would present the reimbursement request to the Village Council at its Feb. 26, 2026 meeting and follow up with the Land Bank afterward.
