Public health secures book grant, displays awareness billboards and readies AED/Narcan installation

Public Health Manager Barbara Salmela-Lind reported a SMIF grant for 300 English and 25 Spanish books for community events, countywide Cannabis Awareness billboards, and a pending AED/Narcan stand installation in Butterfield funded by Opioid Settlement allocations.
Barbara Salmela-Lind told the board that Public Health received a grant from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation to purchase 300 English-language and 25 Spanish-language books for distribution at county events including the county fair and the Suicide Prevention Walk. She said staff plan to distribute the books at several community events to reach families.
Salmela-Lind also reported that Cannabis Awareness and Power of Public Health billboards are currently displayed countywide. She said the AED and Narcan stand installation in Butterfield is expected to be completed soon and will be funded through Opioid Settlement allocation funds. The Community Health Assessment was emailed to board members on June 16 as the next step toward developing a Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).
