Watonwan County reports provider revalidation problems; SMILES remains in appeals

Katy Goldschmidt, Social Services Supervisor, told the board that provider revalidation has been a significant challenge and that two providers known to the county—We Care Home Care and SMILES—lost PCA/CFSS service status when the state Department of Human Services could not complete required site visits. Goldschmidt said We Care Home Care's PCA/CFSS license has been reinstated; SMILES remains in the appeals process.
Goldschmidt and Director Amy Pluym also summarized managed care audit outcomes: the county's MCO Care Coordinators achieved High Performer status with Medica, received one minor deficiency with UCare (not requiring a corrective action plan as the audit structure is being phased out), and completed a strong CMS audit with Blue Plus with only a few minor corrections needed.
