The Putnam County Board of Commissioners voted July 6 to approve a Huffman bridge repair project for 2027 after the highway department received a single bid.
Deputy Highway Director Robyn Hughes said the Huffman bridge was put out to bid and the county received one bid from Collom Excavating for $482,632 to repair the structure to allow traffic to cross. Hughes recommended funding the project from the bridge surtax fund. Commissioner Rick Woodall moved to approve the project for 2027; Tom Helmer seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Hughes also reported ongoing and planned bridge work (Bridge 95 to start July 10 with an estimated 30‑day repair window; Bridges 154 and 211 on order, with I‑beams expected by Aug. 4). The Huffman approval is recorded as part of the highway report and scheduled as a 2027 project funded from bridge surtax resources.
