County staff presented a proposed job description for an Opioid Fund coordinator and a renamed steering body, the "opioid response steering committee." The administrator/controller said she had incorporated prior commissioner feedback into the draft.
"I do like the name change that it's an opioid response steering committee," one commissioner said. Commissioners debated whether to hire a coordinator first to gather available resources and identify gaps, or to form the stakeholder steering committee first so members could help define qualifications and program needs.
Several members warned about committing grant dollars to a salaried position before the steering group had identified service requirements, with one commissioner noting available opioid funds currently extend only through about 2031. Others suggested a target date (December) to have a framework in place while allowing further committee input.
No formal motion was taken; the board agreed there was consensus to send the job description to the wage-and-salary committee for salary-setting and to place the item on the next meeting agenda for a vote.
