Teresa “Teri” Smithson, Director of Elections and General Registrar for Hanover County, reported to the Electoral Board on March 13 that early voting for the special election that began March 6, 2026, had a “great start.” She credited Parks and Recreation for assisting with signage, traffic flow and logistics around the Wickham Building while nearby construction continues.
Smithson said the office’s safety plan is functioning as intended and noted a scheduling point for operations: Hanover County Public Schools will be closed on Election Day, April 21, 2026. Chief Deputy Registrar Aimee Wilson told the board that interest in serving as election officers is high, which the office expects will help staffing for early voting and Election Day operations.
The board recorded these staff updates as part of the registrar’s report and did not take separate action on operational matters at the meeting.
