Town Attorney Thomas Benavidez informed the Huachuca City Council on Jan. 8 that three council seats (incumbents Butterworth, Trate and Thompson) and the mayoral seat (incumbent Johann Wallace) will be on the Nov. 3, 2026 general-election ballot. He explained that incumbents whose terms do not expire this year must resign before running and cited Arizona statutes governing registration and early voting.
Benavidez told the Council that voter registration closes Oct. 5, 2026 at midnight (ARS §16-120, §16-134) and that early voting dates are governed by ARS §16-542(C). He recommended the Town consider beginning candidate advertising and clarified the town's nonpartisan ballot process and absence of a municipal primary.
