Community development budget largely unchanged; insurance rises after vehicle purchases

Staff said the community development budget remains similar to FY26, but insurance and inspection-service line items rose after the purchase of two new trucks and planned inspection services for buildings along Highway 80.
The Presenter told the board the community development budget is largely unchanged from FY26 but noted two areas of change: insurance costs and added inspection services. "We did purchase 2 new trucks, and so that increased their allocation of insurance liability and, auto," the Presenter said.
The Presenter said he included inspection-service funding in case building reviews are needed for properties on Highway 80, and noted asbestos or other cleanup work would be handled as required. The Chair reminded the board that repairs under $5,000 can be issued by staff via a purchase order; projects above that threshold must return to the board.
