The Stevens County Board of Commissioners voted July 7 to accept a petition to establish County Ditch 9 and to appoint an engineer to complete a preliminary survey under Minnesota drainage law. Auditor/Treasurer Stephanie Buss presented a Findings and Order noting the requirements of Minn. Stat. § 103E.241 that the drainage authority appoint an engineer within 30 days of receiving a petition and bond.
Buss told the board a surety bond "in the amount of $25,000 from Steven Johnson" had been filed to support the petition for a new drainage system. Commissioner Kopitzke moved to approve the Findings and Order, appoint an engineer and prescribe the preliminary survey; Commissioner Ennen seconded and all members voted aye. The board did not set a project schedule at the meeting beyond the statutory survey appointment.
