Clerk and Extension staff brief committee on Act 235, Extension programming and capital updates

County Clerk Kretlow told the Natural Resources Committee March 6 that she attended the Wisconsin Counties Association legislative conference and relayed information on walking quorum guidance and Act 235, which takes effect April 1, 2025. The minutes record: "Ms. Kretlow reported on her attendance at the WCA Legislative Conference including information on walking quorums and Act 235 which goes into effect April 1, 2025." The committee discussed record-indexing implications later in the agenda during the Register of Deeds report.
Regional Crops Educator Gartman provided an update on Extension activities, noting the Forage Conference, webinars and other program projects. Planning & Parks Director Struck also provided updates on capital-funded projects, noted funding for WisCorp and the Tendick Creek wetland restoration project, and distributed a letter addressed to the Sugar Maple Nature School regarding pending invoice items; the committee agreed to place that issue on the April 3 agenda as an action item.
Committee members asked questions about indexing of records in light of Act 235 during the Register of Deeds/Land Information report. Land & Water Management Director Vogeler provided a departmental update earlier in the meeting and discussed a pause in demo-farm network funding.
