The Finance Committee voted Feb. 27 to approve and forward a resolution that increases 2025 revenue for the Planning & Parks Department to fund stream and habitat restoration projects.
The resolution authorizes acceptance of three funding sources: a Wisconsin Emergency Management Pre-Disaster Flood Resilience Implementation Grant of $249,326 for work on Sucker Creek; USEPA/USFWS/GLRI funds of $400,000 for habitat restoration along County Highway Trunk W and at the Milwaukee River Oxbow Nature Preserve in the Village of Saukville; and $303,840 from a Monsanto Company class-action settlement for restoration work at multiple county waterways. The minutes record the combined allocations as $249,326, $400,000 and $303,840 respectively.
Supervisor T. Richart moved to approve the resolution; Supervisor D. Clark seconded. The committee approved the item unanimously and will forward it to the full County Board for final action.
County staff described the projects as focused on stream and habitat restoration intended to improve water quality at Sucker Creek, Tendick Creek, Mineral Springs Creek, Mole Creek, along County Highway W/Milwaukee River Oxbow Nature Preserve, the Milwaukee River and Ulao Creek. The resolution and amounts are recorded in the committee minutes and will be finalized at the County Board meeting.
